Work to begin on revamp of Strathclyde Park’s Watersports Centre

WORK is set to get underway next month on the redevelopment of the Watersports Centre at Strathclyde Country Park in North Lanarkshire.

The project is being delivered by hub South West on behalf of North Lanarkshire Council, with Linear Design & Construct as main contractor.

Once complete in 2027, the building will be ‘far more’ energy efficient and heated by renewable technology. It will also include space for small businesses to hire; a ground floor café and seating terrace; improved facilities for accessibility; a new base for the countryside ranger service; and space for outdoor education.

When it reopens, the building will be renamed Strathshore. The name was chosen following a public survey and consultation events with local schools, which more than 850 individuals participated in.

Helen Loughran, convener of the environment and climate change committee at North Lanarkshire Council, said, “Our new Strathshore building will offer modern facilities for visitors to the park as well as creating new opportunities for small businesses and well-being activities.

“The energy efficiency measures in the building will also reduce its running costs and the impact on climate change, giving an old building a positive, sustainable future.”
