WARMWORKS has opened an office in Lerwick to support the local community during the delivery of the new Heat and Energy Efficient Scotland: Area-Based Scheme.

The initiative, funded through the Scottish Government, offers energy efficiency and home insulation improvements to Shetland homes that are struggling with rising energy costs.

As managing agent for HEES: ABS in Shetland, Warmworks will oversee the delivery process on behalf of Shetland Islands Council, and will work with a range of accredited, qualified local sub-contractors within its supply chain.

In the 10 years since it was founded, Warmworks revealed it has supported tens of thousands of people across Scotland as the managing agent for the Scottish Government’s national fuel poverty scheme, Warmer Homes Scotland. This has included supporting more than 1,000 homes and families across Shetland, where Warmworks has relationships with local firms that have carried out a range of energy efficiency improvements in properties.

Councillor Moraig Lyall, chair of Shetland Islands Council’s environment and transport committee, said, “I was very pleased to attend the opening of Warmworks’ office in Lerwick today. It’s very reassuring to know that people in the local community are able to speak to the organisation delivering this scheme, face to face. We want to ensure that more people benefit from warmer, more energy efficient homes and we’re looking forward to working with Warmworks to make that happen here in Shetland.”

Ross Armstrong, Warmworks’ chief executive, added, “The opening of our Shetland office is a crucial part of demonstrating our commitment to the local community and delivering the Heat and Energy Efficient Scotland: Area-Based Scheme. It’s really important that we’re not just a voice on the end of the phone. Having an office in Lerwick means people can come in and see us, have a chat, and find out more about how the scheme can help them, so anyone interested in finding out more, please come by and speak with the team.

“Warmworks now manages the area-based energy efficiency work for all of the major island-based local authorities in Scotland. We know that these communities have some of the highest levels of fuel poverty in the country, and it is critical for us to get it right for local people.”

Warmworks also delivers the Area-Based Schemes for Orkney Islands Council and Comhairle nan Eilean Siar.
