ROAD Expo Scotland and Bridges Scotland are set to tackle the most pressing challenges currently facing the sector when the co-located events return to Glasgow’s SEC on November 26-27.
The two events will bring together over 2,000 delegates from across Scotland’s transport sector.
In partnership with Transport Scotland, Road Expo Scotland focuses on the key themes of resilience, innovation, skills, and sustainability, while Bridges Scotland tackles the critical issue of managing ageing infrastructure.
They come at a crucial time for Scotland’s infrastructure. Road Expo Scotland will feature a ministerial keynote from cabinet secretary for transport Fiona Hyslop, alongside panels addressing the transport skills shortage and Scotland’s journey toward net zero. Major project updates including the A9 dualling programme will provide strategic insights for the sector.
Bridges Scotland addresses what many are calling an infrastructure crisis, with sessions including ‘Local authority structures: a ticking time bomb?’ and critical case studies from the Forth Road Bridge main cable inspections to emergency response following Storm Babette damage.
Gordon Kirk, transport portfolio director at Hemming Group, commented, “Scotland’s transport infrastructure faces unprecedented challenges that require the entire industry to work together. These events provide an essential platform for sharing knowledge, innovations, and practical solutions that will help secure the future of our transport networks.”
WSP headlines Road Expo as theatre sponsor, demonstrating the commitment of major consultancies to addressing Scotland’s infrastructure challenges. Exhibitors include some of the biggest names in the road infrastructure sector including Amey, Kier Transportation, BEAR Scotland, Swarco, Yunex Traffic, and John McGeady, showcasing the latest innovations in road technology, safety systems, and sustainable solutions.
Bridges Scotland brings together specialist bridge engineering companies such as ACROW Global (gold sponsor), Freyssinet, Banagher, Riegl UK, VolkerLaser, and Maurer, displaying assessment technologies, construction techniques, and infrastructure solutions.
The events are supported by a host of Scotland’s transport and engineering institutions, with Transport Scotland as official content partner, ICE Scotland, SCOTS, IHE and ITS UK. Road Expo Scotland also benefits from support from the Road Safety Marking Association and Road Surface Treatments Association, while Bridges Scotland is also backed by NASC and the Bridge Owners Forum.
Lisa Bentley, Bridges Scotland event director, said, “The scale of Scotland’s bridge infrastructure challenges demands urgent action and innovation. This year’s programme brings together the expertise, technologies, and strategic thinking needed to address the maintenance crisis facing bridge owners across Scotland.”
Road Expo Scotland features panels on digital road transformation, EV infrastructure development, and active travel solutions, alongside technology demonstrations and major project case studies. The skills challenge panel brings together industry leaders to address workforce development in a competitive market.
Bridges Scotland delivers content on emergency response, heritage bridge restoration, advanced assessment techniques, and sustainable bridge design, with case studies from major Scottish infrastructure projects.
Both events include exhibition areas, networking opportunities, and free attendance for all delegates.
