Repairs begin on Saltcoats swimming pool roof damaged during Storm Éowyn

Auchenharvie pool roof

WORK is underway to bring Auchenharvie Leisure Centre’s swimming pool back into use after its roof suffered extensive damage during Storm Éowyn in January.

Irvine-based Walker Cladding is leading the repair of the roof on behalf of North Ayrshire Council, with the project hoped to be completed towards the end of the year.

Tony Gurney, cabinet member for green environment and economy, said, “We’re delighted to confirm that the contractors have arrived on site today to begin setting up for what will be an extensive programme of works. Initially, passers-by will not see any work being carried out as the programme will see a massive scaffolding structure erected inside the pool’s hall, to allow the contractors access to safely work on the roof.

“This is expected to take a number of weeks and, once complete, work will be able to start in earnest on the removal and replacement of the damaged roof. While this work is carried out, I would like to thank the local community for their patience and understanding.”
