One-year-old construction enthusiast given day to remember

A one-year-old with a love for construction has been given a day to remember by Bellway Homes at the firm’s Landsdale development in East Kilbride.

Since moving into the housing development in May with mum and dad, Sally and James Beattie, Harris has sat on the balcony of his home watching diggers and lorries pass by on site – quickly making friends with the site team.

When Andy Borland, construction director of Bellway’s west division, heard of Harris’ love of the vehicles he rallied round the sub-contractors to create a truly memorable day.

A William Hamilton lorry arrived outside Harris’ house with the lights flashing and horn tooting. Harris was then presented with his own-sized PPE kit before being invited, along with his dad, into the cab for a site tour. He was then escorted to Advance Construction’s digger, where he sat in the driving seat before being presented with his own keepsake digger.

Mum Sally said, “He absolutely loved his day and hasn’t let his toy digger out of his sight since then. The team have been fantastic. We were one of the first residents to move into this phase of the development and every day he waits to see the lorries pass by.

“Since then, the team are always waving at him, stopping for a chat and have even read him stories! They are all great friends, and we can’t thank them enough.”

Andy Borland, construction director Bellway Homes Ltd (Scotland West), said, “It was fantastic to see Harris’ surprise and big smiles when the lorry stopped outside his house.  The team love seeing him every day and you never know his enthusiasm might continue as he grows up.”
