INVERNESS’ Infirmary Bridge has been closed after a routine inspection identified that a hanger, which holds the bottom cord of the bridge deck, has sheared.
An engineer is due to visit the crossing later today for a further inspection, with the Highland Council saying the assessment will enable a timetable to be drawn up for the repair to be undertaken.
The Highland Council said, “A routine inspection of the Infirmary Bridge identified that a hanger which holds the bottom cord of the bridge deck has sheared. The bridge was therefore closed to the public this morning (7 August) and, in the interests of public safety, will remain closed until the hanger is repaired.”
