PROPERTY business DJ Alexander recently welcomed a trio of outstanding individuals to reflect on the history and importance of Scottish women’s football.

Melinda Illes, director of property sales at estate and lettings agency DJ Alexander, hosted the ‘Against All Odds’ event at the company’s Edinburgh office. It was attended by Rose Reilly, former Scottish and Italian international player; Fiona Skillen, the co-editor of a history of Scottish women’s football called ‘A most unsuitable beautiful game’; and Ann Park, head of commercial operations at Hearts FC.

The aim was to show how football has enabled women to achieve great things and how lessons from sport can be used in all walks of life.

As Melinda explained, “Rose has shown us, that with hard work, resilience, determination and passion, we can achieve the wildest of our dreams and against all odds.”

Like football, property has traditionally been a male-dominated sector. DJ Alexander is bucking the trend by now employing more women than men.

The event was held at the company’s office at the John Cotton Centre, Sunnyside, Edinburgh which is on the site of the first Scottish Women’s International, which was held in 1881 and resulted in Scotland beating England 3-0.
