TREC Capital Glasgow Limited, a Martley Capital Group company, is inviting members of the local community to two public consultation events regarding proposals for purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) at West Campbell Street, Glasgow.
Planning advisors Savills will be hosting the first drop-in event on Tuesday 26th August 2025 (3pm-7pm) with a follow-up event on Tuesday 7th October (3pm-7pm). Both events will be held in the reception of the existing building at 51 West Campbell Street.
The proposals involve the demolition of the existing vacant office building to allow for redevelopment to provide a facility with purpose-built student accommodation, associated landscaping, access, and infrastructure.
Andrew White, development manager for the new owners Martley Capital Group, said, “I am really excited to be involved in the redevelopment of this prime city centre site. The existing building frame is structurally compromised, and the internal layout is unsuitable for conversion, so redevelopment is the only option.
“I am looking forward to delivering a new state-of-the-art student accommodation building that provides a strong interactive frontage to the corner of Waterloo Street and West Campbell Street.”
Jack Thoms, executive director at Martley Capital Group, added, “The redevelopment of this prominent city centre site is a key focus for Martley and we are delighted to bring this exciting state of the art student accommodation building forward.”
The scheme will provide student accommodation with internal and external amenity spaces including study rooms, break out and social spaces, and communal roof terraces.
Neil Haining, director of Mosaic Architecture and Design, commented, “The development has been carefully designed in response to the site’s immediate context and the surrounding townscape in this part of the city and provides a new urban block with appropriate scale and quality of materials. The building will be equipped with a variety of outstanding facilities for residents, centred around the main social hub and spacious common room, with study areas, a large games room, a state-of-the-art gym, and an on-site cinema room.
“The primary entrance is located on the corner of Waterloo Street and West Campbell Street which leads into the main amenity space on ground floor as well as higher level roof terraces which will be designed to ensure they are used as part of the everyday life of the building.”
Alastair Wood, head of planning at Savills, said, “When finished, the development will increase activity in the city centre and help the council meet its target to double the city centre population by 2035.”
It is anticipated that an application for planning permission will be submitted at the end of 2025.
