GROUND has been broken on the new Corbiewood Primary School being built to serve the emerging South Stirling Gateway housing development.

The seven-classroom school is being constructed by McLaughlin & Harvey through the SCAPE framework, with Stirling Council anticipating it to be completed by late summer 2026. This will be followed by a four-classroom extension in 2033/34 depending on roll estimates.

The new school will be the first to be built within the Stirling council area to support population growth since Newton Primary School opened in 1996. The school will be constructed alongside external sports and landscaping and be linked to active travel routes to and from Bannockburn and its surrounding areas.

Stirling Council social work and education convener, councillor Danny Gibson, said, “It’s exciting to see the work getting underway in earnest on this modern and high-quality primary school that will serve a new community as Stirling continues to grow and thrive. The ground being broken at the site is a significant milestone in bringing the new Corbiewood Primary to fruition and it was fantastic to join partners to celebrate this achievement.

“The construction of this new school alongside projects such as the new Callander PS highlights our commitment to investing in infrastructure to support the learning and development of our young people.”

Chris Boyle, framework director at McLaughlin & Harvey, added, “We are delighted to participate in the groundbreaking for Corbiewood Primary. Built to exacting environmental and educational standards, this school will undoubtedly become the heart of this new development and provide a community focus and great start for the young people of Stirling.”

The developers are in the first phase of housebuilding on the South Stirling Gateway site following planning permission being granted 30 April 2024 for the first 150 homes. The development will deliver around new 800 homes with almost 200 allocated for affordable housing. The work is being led by Persimmon Homes.

Neil Parry, Persimmon Homes East Scotland MD, said, “Breaking ground on Corbiewood Primary is a key milestone in the South Stirling Gateway project, which will deliver a vibrant, sustainable new community. Persimmon is proud to be leading the delivery of high-quality two, three and four-bedroom homes at the site, providing a range of options for local families and supporting the continued growth of Stirling. The construction of this new school ensures families moving into the area will have access to modern, local education.”
