THE £41.8 million build of the new Mayfield Community Learning Campus is set to get underway this summer, Midlothian Council has announced.

The local authority has appointed Kier to build the new campus, which is expected to be complete in spring 2027, with the overall project due to conclude later that year.

The existing buildings at the site will be demolished, with the new campus incorporating Mayfield Primary School, St Luke’s RC Primary School, nursery, additional support needs, and community facilities.

The campus will also feature a grass seven-a-side football pitch, full-sized 3G football pitch, basketball court, community growing space, community meeting rooms, workspaces, and library facilities.

Phil McDowell, regional director for Kier Construction north & Scotland, said, “We’re pleased to be working once again with Midlothian Council to deliver the new Mayfield Community Learning Campus. Drawing on our strong track record in building high-quality schools, we’ll create a modern, inclusive environment for over 700 pupils complete with a wide range of community uses.

“This project marks a major step forward for Mayfield. We’ve also developed a careful site preparation strategy to minimise disruption to nearby residents, reusing materials on site to reduce waste and traffic coming in and out of the site. The end result will be a valuable resource for learning, wellbeing and community life for years to come.”

Midlothian Council’s cabinet member for education, councillor Ellen Scott, added, “While the schools will be the heart of this project, our aim is to build an outstanding facility that will also serve the wider community.”
