BALFOUR Beatty Living Places recently featured on BBC News, after providing behind-the-scenes access to a careers fair held at HMP Lewes, organised by the company as part of its commitment to supporting ex-offenders into meaningful employment.
The event brought together businesses from across the contractor’s supply chain and industry partners to speak with prisoners about career opportunities. Attendees had the opportunity to learn about the variety of career paths available within the construction and infrastructure sectors, including highways maintenance.
Ceri Turner, social impact manager at Balfour Beatty Living Places, said, “We recognise people deserve a second chance and there is commercial value in having a diverse team in the company.”
The careers fair was described as ‘life-changing’ by former inmate Frazer Trought, who is now employed by a supply chain partner after attending a similar Balfour Beatty Living Places-led event. “They empowered me to prove my worth by giving me responsibility and allowing me to work hard and prove myself as a reliable employee,” he told the BBC.
