BALFOUR Beatty has announced that Nick Rowan will become MD of its construction services business in Scotland from August 4, 2025.

He will succeed the retiring Hector MacAulay, who has held the role since 2015. Hector will continue in an advisory capacity for several months before retiring at the end of the year.

Nick Rowan joined Balfour Beatty 30 years ago as a graduate surveyor. He spent the first two decades of his career in operational commercial roles, and the last 10 years as director for new business north of the border.

A chartered surveyor, Nick is said to have been instrumental in broadening Balfour Beatty’s Scotland portfolio. He was involved in securing the A9 Dualling scheme on behalf of Transport Scotland, and the Accelerated Strategic Transmission Investment offshore programme of works for SSEN Transmission.

Nick Crossfield, divisional CEO of Balfour Beatty’s UK construction services business, said, “Nick has a long and deep understanding of Balfour Beatty, having started his career with us as a graduate three decades ago. There is a significant pipeline of work ahead in Scotland requiring close collaboration across teams.

“Nick is ideally placed to lead this growth, sustain our success and build on Hector’s legacy. His appointment is also testament to the long and rewarding careers available in the construction and infrastructure industry, where talent and dedication is recognised and nurtured.”

Nick Rowan added, “With Scotland playing a key role in our growth strategy and the UK’s transition to net zero, I am excited to lead our Scotland business at such a pivotal time. I look forward to continuing to work alongside the incredibly talented team, remaining focused on delivering best-in-class, sustainable construction solutions for our customers.

“I would also like to thank Hector for his leadership over many years – he leaves our regional Scotland business in excellent health and with clear direction.”
