BRAND Access Solutions has been providing scaffolding solutions to help with the restoration of the historic A-listed Jenners department store building in Edinburgh.
Last year, Project Scotland reported that GRAHAM Construction had started work to transform the famous Princes Street location into a mixed-use space. The development encompasses 17,5000 square metres across ten floors. The plans include the restoration of Jenners, while the upper floors will house a boutique hotel, along with café, bars and restaurant spaces.
The building opened in 1895 and was expanded in 1903, with further additions in the 1950s and 60s. It closed its doors in December 2020.
Brand Access Solutions has provided in-house designed access solutions to all areas of the building, both externally and internally, to assist with the sensitive restoration that will revive many of the building’s original features. The firm’s temporary works started in July last year and are scheduled to run until June 2027.
The business revealed that 25 scaffolding operatives are on site. The top of the scaffold is 36m-high and there are 18 lifts on the structure, which features a range of scaffold structures including internal works, gantries, propping, banner frames, sheeting drop cantilever scaffolds, birdcages, and other bespoke designs.
Regional manager Stuart Dougall said, “Working on a A-listed building in Scotland which is of historical architectural importance is an absolute privilege and plays to our strengths as we have a long and envied reputation for heritage building work, including our recent NASC Project of the Year winner, New Register House, in close proximity to Jenners.
“It is a superb project to be part of and credit goes to the Edinburgh operations team, headed up by Scott Tillbrook.
“We have received high praise for our scaffolding works from the client and main contractor and would hope that formal awards will follow as the works progress.”
