THE Scottish Building Federation has announced a number of events to mark the organisation’s 130th anniversary this year.

Legislative briefings, technology workshops, a golf tournament, and a President’s Lunch are among the calendar highlights for the trade body, which was founded in 1895 and represents the construction industry in Scotland.

The first of these showcase events kicks off in Glasgow next week with expert insight on legislative changes impacting the sector. Attendees can hear from Michael Conroy, partner with Harper Macleod LLP, on the applicability of the Building Safety Act 2022 in Scotland.

Later in the year, Federation members can participate in a golf tournament in Carnoustie, as well as bespoke training sessions on the use of AI in construction which are being rolled out across the country in the autumn.

The anniversary celebrations culminate in the President’s Lunch in Edinburgh in November.

Operations director Paul Mitchell said, “We are grateful to Michael Conroy of Harper Macleod for sharing his legal expertise on the Building Safety Act with business leaders and construction professionals, ensuring that the industry is aware of our practical responsibilities and future expectations. This event will also provide a fantastic opportunity to network with members, guests and industry representatives in a relaxed atmosphere.

“We are also pleased that our varied programme of events to celebrate the Scottish Building Federation’s 130th anniversary demonstrates that we remain at the forefront of the sector; advancing new technologies, interpreting contemporary legislation and promoting our modern industry whilst also continuing to deliver personalised business support services directly to our growing membership.”

The Building Safety Act presentation takes place between 3-4pm on Thursday 5 June in the Merchants House of Glasgow. It is being held on the same day as the Federation’s AGM and it is a free event which is open to the wider industry.
