ROBERTSON Construction Tayside and its supply chain have undertaken a project to transform part of a Perth and Kinross Council facility for children and young people with additional support needs into a sensory area.
The team at Woodlea Cottage in Perth provide personalised family support programmes to help families where children have complex needs, including respite stays at the purpose-built provision.
Kirsty House, once a storage room at Woodlea, was transformed over ten years years ago into a bright space, named in memory of Kirsty, a child who loved the outdoors and sensory activities. A decade on, it was in need of repair and Woodlea applied to Perth and Kinross Council for help through the council’s Angel’s Share initiative, and were put in touch with Robertson.
The Robertson Construction Tayside site team working on the delivery of the nearby Perth High School co-ordinated all the construction works to improve and rejuvenate Kirsty House. Robertson collaborated with members of its supply chain to deliver over £30,000 worth of work at no cost, as part of its commitment to providing positive community impact.
Kilmac contributed by forming new footpaths, completing excavations, and providing a trampoline. Sidey supplied and installed new windows and doors, while Lestreose handled the brick and blockwork for the trampoline substructure. Soundtex installed a new floor, Presdec carried out internal decorations, and Devar fitted new floor coverings. Caledonia Play supported the project by donating materials, resources and labour and Robertson also donated play equipment.
Through the Angel Share initiative, the Woodlea team received £3,000 funding which has enabled the purchase of outdoor play and sensory equipment and toys.
Kevin Dickson, regional MD, Robertson Construction Tayside, said, “This project has been a true team effort together with the council and our supply chain partners to create an inclusive, engaging and vibrant new space. In total, 12 people dedicated 210 hours alongside in-kind donation to support a truly deserving cause.
“We are committed to delivering meaningful, long-lasting benefits in the communities where we work, and we hope the young people at Woodlea Cottage enjoy this new space for years to come.”
