A £4.4 million extension to Viewforth High School in Kirkcaldy has been agreed to by councillors at a meeting of Fife Council’s cabinet committee.
Part of the Windmill Community Campus, the extension to the existing school has been planned to accommodate new pupils expected as a result of new housing developments in the area. The project will be partly funded by contributions from housing developers as part of planning agreements.
Viewforth High School was designed to be easily extended when it was built in 2016 with a maximum capacity of 600 pupils. The new single-storey extension will have flexible learning spaces with direct access to an external garden and will bring the capacity of the school up to 750.
Fife Council leader David Ross said, “The success of our building Fife’s future programme is clear to see with many more pupils now choosing to attend Viewforth HS. This expansion has been planned as more housing is built in the area so that extra accommodation is available when it’s needed. As part of the Windmill Community Campus the school contributes positively to the local community and we look forward with staff and pupils to this next phase of the school’s story.”
Construction is expected to start next summer and be completed by spring 2027.
