CALA Homes (West) recently visited Woodhead Primary School in Hamilton to talk to children about the housebuilding industry and educate them on the dangers of playing in and around construction sites.
Primary four and five classes participated in an interactive session which covered the history of building homes and showcased the variety of career opportunities within the industry. There was also a stark warning about the dangers of going into construction areas unsupervised.
Jordan Hughes, site manager at Cornhill Village and Nicki Elliot, marketing coordinator at Cala Homes (West) discussed how Cala keeps its nearby Cornhill Village development safe and highlighted some of the hidden dangers that can be found on building sites.
The initiative forms part of the firm’s Community Pledge.
Jordan said, “The Stay Safe, Stay Away programme is designed to spread the message to children that construction sites are not somewhere to play around. As responsible homebuilders we have created a programme that lets children and young people know that the message is serious but is presented in a way that’s easy for them to digest.”
Nicki added, “Another aim of this initiative is to bring to life at grassroots level how new homes are developed and the important role that housebuilders play in creating sustainable new communities. It was great to see the children engaged with the presentation, they especially enjoyed the interactive part of the lesson where they could try on different types of PPE which we use on site.”
Cala’s Cornhill Village development features a range of four and five-bedroom detached homes, with three showhomes available to view.
