CLARK Contracts raised £2,500 for Scottish Action for Mental Health (SAMH) at its 13th annual Spring Classic at Loch Katrine.
The event was attended by over 60 cyclists from the construction industry and entailed a 30-mile cycle around the banks of Loch Katrine. Attendees competed for prizes for the fastest Hill Climb, Time Trial, Overall Men’s Winner, Overall Women’s Winner and Overall Team Winner.
The first event comprised of a Cat 3 hill climb stretching over three miles up the iconic Dukes Pass with the winner being awarded the ‘King of the Mountains’ jersey. Steve Thomson of G1 Architects was first to the top with a time of 10 minutes and 50 seconds, followed by Colin Andrews also from G1 Architects, with a time of 11 minutes and 2 seconds.
After a quick rest in the sun at the top of the hill, the riders made their way through Aberfoyle and to the start of the three-mile time trial competition, which started at Loch Chon. All riders completed this section in under 15 minutes, with Steve again winning the title by 10 seconds, closely followed by Gary Clark from RSP Consulting Engineers.
Following his impressive performance in both competitions, Steve Thomson of G1 Architects, was crowned the Overall Men’s Winner. The prize from the Hill Climb was then presented to runner up Colin Andrews also from G1 Architects, and the Time Trial prize presented to second place, Gary Clark from RSP Consulting Engineers, who previously won this section in 2022.
First time attendee Roisin Crawley of Stallan-Brand was presented with the prize for the best overall women’s performance.
It was no surprise that with the impressive efforts of both Steve and Colin, that their G1 Architects team were crowned the team winners.
Chris Docherty, account manager at SAMH, said, “Congratulations to Clark Contracts for organising yet another successful fundraising event and well done to everyone who took part! Everyone here at SAMH are so thankful for the support from partners like Clark Contracts whose donations allow us to reach more people and stand up for Scotland’s mental health.”
Clark Contracts began supporting SAMH as their nominated company charity in 2022, and since then this annual event has raised over £8,500 for the charity, with over £22,000 being raised in total.
