PUPILS from Brimmond Primary School in Aberdeen received a visit from author and storyteller Jackie Ross to celebrate International Children’s Book Day this week, courtesy of housebuilder Barratt and David Wilson Homes.
As a founder member of the Grampian Association of Storytellers, Jackie led a session with a nod to the area’s native dialect. During the visit, pupils from P1 and P2 enjoyed a sit-down reading session with Jackie, followed by a workshop that immersed the children into the story.
Barratt and David Wilson Homes also donated a series of Doric books, which forms part of its commitments to support the local community.
Jackie Ross said, “I had a lovely time sharing Doric stories with P1 at Brimmond Primary. They were great listeners and particularly enjoyed hearing about the woman who outwitted the faeries and the polar bear who decided that there was no place like home.”
Felipe Ferreira, sales director at Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes North Scotland, added, “Each year, we celebrate children’s love of reading by working with various schools across Scotland. With our Hopecroft View development at Bucksburn being so close to Brimmond Primary, we were eager to continue our relationship with the school.
“Jackie is a fantastic author, and her stories have helped spark creativity among the children. We hope the donation of books encourages the pupils to support keeping Doric alive here in the north of Scotland.”
