Free resource hub launched to prevent work-related musculoskeletal disorders

Musculoskeletal disorders resource

THE Health in Construction Leadership Group (HCLG) has launched a new resource hub to provide information on how to prevent musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs).

The organisation highlighted an HSE report that musculoskeletal disorders account for 52% of self-reported ill-health conditions in construction, making this the most prominent health issue in the sector.

In response, the Health in Construction Leadership Group has collated a number of resources to help construction managers raise awareness and encourage best practice – with the objective of reducing work-induced musculoskeletal disorders.

The MSD Resource Hub includes: a prevention learning module, HSE guidance on upper limb disorders; guidance on warming up before work; bone joint and muscle care; manual handling toolbox talks; MSD toolbox talks; how to set a minimum standard on site; and distribution of materials guide.

The HCLG has also launched a new campaign video to run alongside the resource hub. The video shows examples of how new technology can be used to ease physical load.
