CLARK Contracts has commenced work on the build of a 273-bed purpose built student accommodation (PBSA) development on Glasgow’s Osborne Street on behalf of Ambassador Group.
The £30 million development is situated in the Trongate area of the city centre and will consist of an 11-storey building providing 273 rooms, alongside resident amenities such as a student lounge, gym, and large south facing terrace with views over the River Clyde.
A sod-cutting ceremony to mark the start of works took place on April 9 attended by Ahsan Afzal and Grant Millar from Ambassador Group, Alan Tang, group CEO; and executive director from funder, Far East Orchard (FEOR); members of the design team, and Clark Contracts project team, including director, Michael Scanlan and operations director, Danny McKibbens. The design team includes Gardiner & Theobald, Mosaic Architecture & Design, Blyth & Blyth and Troup Bywaters & Anders.
The development is the first for Ambassador Group’s Nova Living concept which is set to enter a new space in the market with a strong focus on sustainable, connected living within a ‘high-quality, thoughtful, community focused’ residential environment. The firm said the concept is set to bring innovation to the living experience of city dwellers, putting sustainability and wellbeing at the forefront.
Michael Scanlan, director at Clark Contracts, said, “It is fantastic for us to be working on another student accommodation project in Glasgow, having delivered over 1,400 beds in recent years. We look forward to working collaboratively with Ambassador Group, Far East Orchard, and the design team to deliver this project and seeing the building take shape over the coming months.”
Ahsan Afzal, head of development for Nova Living at Ambassador Group, added, “We are delighted to finally commence development of our first student accommodation scheme with our partners FEOR. We look forward to working with the Clark Contracts team in delivering this scheme which will provide much needed beds for Glasgow.”
Alan Tang, group CEO and executive director at FEOR, commented, “This is a significant milestone for us at Far East Orchard, as the Osborne Street project is the first development project undertaken by the private student accommodation development fund which we established in August 2024. We’re excited to be working alongside Ambassador Group and Clark Contracts’ team, and we look forward to creating a space that supports students and adds value to the local community.”
