SPRINGFIELD Properties has marked Scottish apprenticeship week with the launch of its 2025 apprenticeship recruitment drive across Moray and the Highlands.
The launch coincided with a site visit with Tim Eagle MSP, Dave McCallum from Skills Development Scotland, and councillor Elaine Kirby, to discuss the importance of apprenticeships.
The group met with apprentices training across a variety of disciplines and stages of their qualifications. Among them was third year apprentice bricklayer, Andrew Carr. He said, “My apprenticeship with Springfield has genuinely changed my life. I didn’t do so well in school and wasn’t sure of my next steps, until I came across Developing the Young Workforce Moray who helped me secure my apprenticeship with Springfield.
“I now have a purpose, a focus and I’m learning a skill that will lead to full time work once I qualify, hopefully with Springfield, and I’m earning money along the way! I especially like working alongside the experienced people on site. We have a great team, and I am able to learn so much from them, alongside my college study. It’s also a great job to help stay active as well.”
Springfield MD Dave Main added, “This is an exciting time for Moray and the Highlands. There is significant investment secured already for green infrastructure across the regions and the building of more homes will mean more jobs and training opportunities. As a responsible housebuilder, we strongly believe we have a duty to train and develop the future of skilled workers in our industry, whilst also supporting the people in the communities in which we build.
“Across the group, we already employ over 10% of staff as an apprentice, and we are currently seeking over 20 people looking to start their career in joinery, taping, painting, bricklaying and general construction.”
Dave McCallum from Skills Development Scotland said, “Apprenticeships are vital to developing Scotland’s workforce, particularly in key sectors like construction, where there is a growing demand for skilled workers. It’s fantastic to see Springfield investing in the future by creating a wide range of opportunities. Apprenticeships are crucial to building a skilled and diverse workforce. It’s encouraging to see such commitment to developing skilled workers who will strengthen the industry and local economy for years to come.”
