THE redevelopment of the former Shawbridge Arcade in Pollokshaws, Glasgow is gathering pace, with the project on track to deliver 75 mid-market rental homes by spring 2026.
The £15.7 million development, by Wheatley Group and managed by Lowther upon completion, is being built by CCG (Scotland). Work began on-site in May 2024, marking a major step forward in the wider regeneration of Pollokshaws, one of Glasgow’s designated Transformational Regeneration Areas (TRAs).
Once complete, the site will provide a mix of one and two-bedroom apartments. To date, the project has facilitated the creation of four job opportunities and two trade apprenticeships with CCG, and will support up to 13 work placements for students and unemployed individuals during the course of the construction programme.
CCG has engaged with local schools and colleges, hosting curriculum support initiatives with the Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) and local high schools, as well as a career-based event at City of Glasgow College.
A key element of the project has been the integration of CCG’s offsite construction methods, hailed as a sustainable approach to building that enables a ‘faster speed of build and delivers enhanced energy performance’.
James Ward, MD of Lowther said, “It’s great to see the progress at Shawbridge Arcade. The 75 energy-efficient homes will bring more much-needed affordable housing to the area. Thanks to the work of CCG, these new homes will also bring wider benefits to the community through creating new jobs and training opportunities and also supporting the most vulnerable customers in Wheatley communities.”
David Wylie, MD at CCG added, “CCG is proud to be playing a leading role in the transformation of Shawbridge Arcade. Our expertise in delivering sustainable, energy-efficient homes ensures that this development will benefit residents and the wider community for generations to come. We are committed to creating opportunities for local people, from apprenticeships to community engagement initiatives, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact of this project unfold.”
The development is receiving more than £11 million from Glasgow City Council’s Affordable Housing Supply Programme budget.
