PLANS for a new development of affordable homes on Arran, on behalf of Trust Housing Association, have been submitted to North Ayrshire Council.
The JR Group is aiming to deliver 26 properties comprising a mix of two and three-bedroom homes, including two semi-detached bungalows designed to be wheelchair accessible.
The site forms part of a larger area of open ground which has already been allocated and zoned for residential development by the local authority. Located in the Springbank area of Brodick, the proposed development site is currently a vacant field.
Andrew Dallas, projects director for The JR Group, said, “The proposed development at Springbank in Brodick is a vital step in the right direction for Arran’s community, delivering high quality homes in an area which needs more affordable housing options and community investment. Trust mirrors our values in making a positive difference to communities across the country, so it is great to be working on behalf of them on these exciting plans.
“As approximately 25% of homes on Arran are currently used as second homes and holiday lets, this proposed new site will give housing options back into the hands of local residents and key workers who are looking for an affordable home. It also supports local employers struggling to attract and retain staff due to the limited housing options across the island.
“We look forward to receiving a decision from North Ayrshire Council in due course.”
Jackie McIntosh, assets & sustainability director at Trust, “added, “Our partnership approach to developing these plans for Springbank with The JR Group is aimed at providing much-needed new energy efficient family homes on the island. As Arran’s largest social rented landlord and a strategic member of The Arran Taskforce, we are committed to increasing affordable housing supply and options for residents on the island, with our investment in the project also sure to bring additional value to the local economy.”
