SCOTRAIL has created a new cycle hub at Inverness Railway Station in a bid to make it easier for people to combine cycling with rail travel.
The new hub was delivered as part of the Scottish Government’s 2023 UCI legacy cycling investment programme, with it including 100 additional cycle spaces and a cycle maintenance stand to assist riders with basic repairs.
The facility is covered by CCTV and sits at the Falcon Square entrance to the station. In addition, a further 48 spaces have been fitted on the opposite side of the station, significantly increasing its bike storage capacity – which now has space for 148 cycles.
To celebrate the opening of the new facility, ScotRail invited pupils from Culloden Academy to design artwork for the cycle hub. The students took inspiration from the local area and what the railway means to them, creating frosted images that now decorate the hub’s exterior.
David Lister, ScotRail safety, sustainability, and asset director, said, “We’re delighted to introduce the new cycle hub at Inverness station, making it easier for customers to combine cycling with rail travel. The additional spaces and maintenance stand will provide a valuable resource for commuters and leisure cyclists alike. Encouraging active travel is a key part of our efforts to join up journeys across the country, and this investment demonstrates ScotRail’s commitment to making cycling a convenient and accessible choice for our customers.”
