THE Morris & Spottiswood Group has revealed it is set to achieve a projected turnover of £265 million as it celebrates its centenary year.
Founded as a joinery workshop in Glasgow by WWI veteran George Morris and his friend John Spottiswood, the company’s ambitious approach is said to have driven significant expansion during the past 100 years – with the recent addition of the ISG Retail team headed by Kevin Dengate adding an expected turnover of £100 million to the business across the next 12 months.
From humble beginnings on the company’s first project – a new post office for the village of Arrochar – the company has secured numerous prestigious contracts, including the fit-out of the QE2 in 1966.
With recent growth driving geographical expansion, the Morris & Spottiswood Group now delivers projects throughout the UK – including Old Broad Street, an 18,000 sqm group head office for Lloyds Banking Group in London; and a new London office space for a global insurance business.
The business has diversified its sectors throughout the years, with recent contracts such as the Portintruan distillery in Islay adding drinks sector experience to its portfolio of financial, retail and public sector projects.
“Our recent growth demonstrates our ability to recognise and act on opportunities that align with our values,” said Jon Dunwell, CEO of the Morris & Spottiswood Group. “From our earliest days working on Glasgow’s schools in the 1930s to our current leadership in sustainable construction and carbon reduction solutions, we’ve always believed in maintaining the highest standards of transparency and compliance.
“Crucially, our people have always been our most valuable asset and we’re looking forward to our next 100 years – working together as one group and one team.”
Today, the Morris & Spottiswood Group comprises nine specialised businesses, operating from ten locations across the UK. The firm offers a range of services including construction, fit-out, retrofit, refurbishment and M&E services, as well as in-house architectural services, maintenance, space development and furnishing, and carbon reduction solutions.
