MORAY Council has unveiled new LED lighting on the Duke of Gordon’s Monument on Ladyhill in Elgin.
The local authority said the system will not only highlight the monument’s architectural beauty, but allow for it to be illuminated in various colours to mark different awareness days and special occasions.
The first lighting event will take place between 2-8 April, when the monument will be illuminated in white and turquoise to mark Autism Acceptance Week. A display cycling through the full colour sequence will happen for the first five minutes after sunset before settling on the pre-programme colour until sunrise.
Moray Council civic leader, councillor John Cowe, commented, “We’re thrilled to introduce this modern lighting system to one of Elgin’s most iconic landmarks. The ability to change the lighting for different awareness days allows us to show our support for various causes and bring the community together in a visually impactful way.”
The new lighting was supported by the UK shared prosperity fund, with it forming part of Moray Council’s ongoing efforts to improve the region’s infrastructure and promote cultural heritage.
