Mac Mic Group, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, has kick-started its £100,000 charity fundraising campaign with a £50,000 donation.
The business can trace its roots back to 1925 when it was first incorporated as Mactaggart & Mickel. To mark the centenary, teams from across the company’s offices came together recently to celebrate the 100-year journey.
Earlier this year, Mac Mic Group announced a partnership with five charities focused on homelessness and cancer care. The goal is to raise £100,000 in 2025, with £20,000 being donated to each of the five charity partners: Maggie’s cancer charity , Rock Trust, Kindness Homeless Street Team, Centrepoint and 1625 Independent People.
During the 100th anniversary festivities held in Glasgow, directors Andrew Mickel and Ross Mickel announced a £50,000 donation from the Mac Mic Foundation, which marks a major step towards the £100,000 goal.
Andrew Mickel said, “We’re honoured to collaborate with these remarkable charities, whose tireless work makes a real difference in the lives of those in need. To kick-start our fundraising efforts, we are delighted to announce a £50,000 donation from the Mac Mic Foundation. This is just the beginning, and we look forward to working with our employees, supporters, and the business community to help us reach our £100,000 target.”
Ross Mickel added, “Maggie’s has a very personal connection for me. My mum, Dot Mickel, received much-needed care during her own cancer journey, and I too benefited from their support during that time. In her memory, our family’s charitable trust, the Mickel Fund built a garden and consultation room at the Maggie’s Centre at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh. I am proud to continue supporting their incredible work and to honour my mum’s legacy.”
From its early days as a small family business, Mactaggart & Mickel quickly became known for providing ‘exceptional’ homes. Over the decades, the company’s leadership, under the stewardship of the Mickel family, is said to have embraced change and innovation, adapting to the evolving UK property market. Today, Mac Mic Group operates across four key divisions: strategic land, private rental property, developments, and investments.
Andrew Mickel said, “We are incredibly proud of the legacy that Mactaggart & Mickel has built over the last 100 years. It’s a story driven by a vision to evolve, adapt, and pivot the business into new directions. As we reflect on our journey, we are excited to look ahead to the next chapter — one that will continue to evolve, make a positive impact on the UK land and property sector, and ensure that the Mactaggart & Mickel legacy lives on for another 100 years.”
Ross Mickel stated, “Our success is the result of the incredible people who have dedicated their time, expertise, and passion to this company over the years. From our employees to our partners, their commitment has been integral to our growth. We are grateful for their contributions and look forward to the future as we continue to build on this strong foundation.”
