Global Infrastructure eyes continued growth with opening of new Inverness office

HIGHLANDS-based civil engineering and construction contractor Global Infrastructure has opened a new office at Aurora House at Inverness Campus.

The firm’s operational base will remain in Beauly, whilst its corporate and compliance team will be moved to the new office – with the firm adding that the move will facilitate future growth.

Initially, the corporate and compliance team consisting of eight will relocate to Aurora House, with the companys operational functions of production, commercial, planning, bid, and procurement teams continuing to operate from Beauly under the leadership of MD David MacDonald. The accounts team relocated to the Henderson Road base of parent company GEG Capital at the end of last year.

Iain Henderson, CEO of Global Infrastructure, said, Global Infrastructure has experienced significant expansion over the past five years, achieving a 200% increase in turnover. With bidding levels forecasted to reach substantial figures in the coming years, now feels like the right time to scale up further to support the energy sectors promising growth, particularly in Scotland and the Highlands.

The move to operate from the heart of Inverness Campus puts the business right in the hub of innovation for the Highlands for a number of sectors from which we can learn from and share ideas to improve our business. The campus is a high-quality environment designed to support businesses to work collaboratively with like-minded organisations and we look forward to sharing this experience, strengthening our existing relationships with clients such as SSE, BAM and Balfour Beatty, while also expanding our portfolio of work within the energy sector.

Locating at Inverness Campus will further accelerate this trajectory by providing access to a dynamic, collaborative environment where we can leverage academic partnerships to enhance innovation and service delivery in an industry that relies heavily on fresh talent and new perspectives. The move will also enable us to establish a dedicated R&D hub, fostering innovation and attracting interest to the industry and to the area. By collaborating at Inverness Campus, we will develop unique solutions that address industry challenges and open new market opportunities.

Global Infrastructure compliance director, Tanya Bartlet, added, The move to Inverness Campus is set to be an exciting new chapter for Global Infrastructure. We pride ourselves as being people-focused and having a close-knit team with an extremely low staff turnover and this move to centrally located new premises will help us continue to grow the team and the business with fresh impetus.

Global Infrastructures future potential workload is very positive and we are in a strong position to grow organically as future projects are awarded. The move to Aurora House will unlock the potential to add more staff, streamline our process and policies and provide the business support required to administer a growing workforce and client base. This will open up further opportunities for us both in the local area and nationally.

By aligning with the Inverness Campus development strategy, we aim to contribute to the campus’s growth while establishing a mutually beneficial relationship that strengthens the universitys ties to industry and the broader community.

Greg Youngson MRICS, property development manager at Highlands & Islands Enterprise (HIE), commented, Were delighted to welcome Global Infrastructure to Inverness Campus. From the very start weve been developing the campus as a centre for collaboration and innovation, involving research, academia and commerce. Global Infrastructure will be a great addition to this and we look forward to helping the team settle in and get to know the many other companies and organisations based here.

Global Infrastructure has recently delivered a number of key projects in the energy and renewables, utilities, infrastructure, and transportation sectors. One such project was the delivery of two multi-million pound strategic storage facilities in Inverness and Dundee for SSEN Transmission. The facilities – set to be completed in Q1 and Q3 2025, respectively – will assist in the continued expansion and maintenance of Scotlands electricity network.
