FLEMING recently welcomed cabinet secretary for health and social care, Neil Gray MSP, to ‘top out’ Bishopton and Dargavel’s new healthcare facility.
Part of the Dargavel Village development, the facility represents a significant investment in partnership with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC), Renfrewshire Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP), and Hub West Scotland. The building will complement the existing health centre in Bishopton, which was refurbished by Fleming in 2022.
Fleming MD Mike Burrows said, “We are proud to play a key role in delivering this much-needed healthcare facility. Having been involved in the project from the design stage, it’s hugely rewarding to see the building taking shape and to witness the benefits it will bring to the community. Sustainability has been a major focus for this project, aligning with our expertise in delivering highly efficient buildings.”
The building incorporates hybrid-passive design standards, featuring triple glazing, enhanced insulation, natural ventilation strategies, and optimised solar gain. Efforts were also made to minimise embodied carbon, including the use of structural timber.
Neil Gray said, “I am pleased to see this facility being developed to support the long-term needs of the community. Ensuring a sustainable, patient-centred health service is vital, and this project demonstrates the positive impact of collaboration between NHSGGC, Renfrewshire HSCP, and Hub West Scotland.”
The project has delivered community benefits, with a strong focus on employment and skills development. Fleming has engaged with local apprentices, providing training and career development opportunities.
Set for completion this summer, the healthcare facility will include five consulting rooms, a treatment room, four multi-use spaces, and a community room. The project is part of BAE Systems’ wider investment in Dargavel Village, with a £1 million financial contribution and land donation supporting its development.
