Aberdeen partners with Houston-based group in net zero drive

A delegation from Aberdeen recently met with Houston-based GlobalScots, Scotland’s international business network, to discuss energy transformation opportunities for the Granite City.

The meeting took place at CERAWeek, which is an annual energy conference held in Texas. The Team Aberdeen group included Aberdeen City Council co-leader, Christian Allard and the local authority’s chief officer for city development and regeneration, Julie Wood.

The group also featured representatives from Peterson Energy Logistics, the Net Zero Technology Centre, Robert Gordon University, and the University of Aberdeen.

The council said Julie Wood was able to build on earlier conversations with Justin Hoffman, a GlobalScot and CEO at cSolutions, at the recent Aberdeen Houston Gateway event. Mr Hoffman said, “By working together with industry partners in Houston and Aberdeen, we can develop solutions to significantly reduce risk and emissions, while ensuring secure, reliable, and affordable energy.  This type of collaborative approach creates the environment and efficiencies needed to meet our growing “All Of The Above” energy demand.”

Ms Wood added, “Collaboration is key to enabling our decarbonisation journey here in Aberdeen, in our partner city Houston, and around the world. We are delighted to continue discussions with members of the GlobalScots network as well as our colleagues at Scottish Development International as we all work together to achieve net zero.”

Aberdeen and Houston have a close relationship through their membership in the World Energy Cities Partnership (WECP). Aberdeen attends CERAWeek in Houston annually to participate in the conference and the WECP Board Working Group.
