Work underway at Clarkston Railway Station to install new footbridge

WORK is underway at Clarkston Railway Station to install a new footbridge as part of the £140 million East Kilbride electrification project.

Network Rail and Story are delivering the new crossing, with the old footbridge being removed last week. The bridge will be installed in March, with the work also including the creation of a new footpath to improve access to platform 2.

Meanwhile, parapet walls are being raised in height at three bridges in the vicinity of the railway near Clarkston Toll, Stamperland Crescent, and Strawhill Road to allow overhead electric line equipment to run underneath.

Karen Connor, Network Rail scheme project manager, said, “The footbridge and parapet works in and around Clarkston station allow the installation of the new overhead electrification equipment on this section of the route which will power cleaner and greener trains. We appreciate that over the next four-months, we’re delivering a significant phase engineering across the entire route. Once this completes in May, we’ll then be in a position to ready the overhead lines for electrification.”

A site compound has been set up in The Goods Yard car park and involves utilising 35 parking spaces for the duration of the works at Clarkston station.
