ORBEX, the Moray-headquartered orbital launch services firm, has launched its annual internship programme.
Nine individuals will be recruited to support its team of experts working towards Obrex Prime’s inaugural launch later this year.
The internship offers a unique opportunity for STEM and law students to gain hands-on experience in Scotland’s space sector. Interns will work closely with the team developing the Prime rocket with roles spanning diverse areas of the business including assembly, integration and test (AIT), software, legal, avionics, ground segment software, and structures.
The internships are hotly contested in the industry with over 1,650 registering their interest in the programme over the last 12 months.
Rowan Spencer, from The University of Glasgow, joined Orbex’s 2024/25 internship programme as an assembly, integration, and test intern. He said, “Rockets have always been a huge passion of mine. My first experience of the space sector was being part of the University of Glasgow’s student-led rocket project, GU Rocketry, and I was on the lookout for opportunities to take my passion to the next level and into a professional career.
“When I saw that Orbex was recruiting, I jumped at the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with a company that is at the forefront of Scotland’s space sector. Being able to work with such a skilled and dynamic team has been an incredible experience, and it’s something I’ll carry with me throughout my career.”
Phillip Chambers, CEO of Orbex, commented, “We’re very proud to offer this opportunity to individuals with a genuine passion for the space sector. We are entering the final stages of developing our Prime rocket and with our very first launch set for later this year, it’s an especially exciting time to join us.”
