MUIR Homes has submitted a planning application to build 48 new homes in Auchterarder, which would complete the firm’s development on the Castlemains land in the town.
The application, which includes 12 affordable homes, is within the boundary of the overarching planning permission in principle which has seen the delivery of over 200 properties since 2013. Muir revealed that the application lodged provides further details on house types, layout, landscaping, and infrastructure.
Five of the proposed homes would be bungalows, designed to increase the diversity of housing options in the area and cater to those with access requirements.
As part of the construction, Muir added that it would contribute to the local community including the safeguarding of land for sports and recreational use.
It could also mean more money for the local community bus. Muir Homes was part of a group of developers that previously provided around £150,000 to the Auchterarder Community Facilities Fund to start the number 49 bus. The housebuilder said the new proposed development would lead to a further £36,000 being made available for local investment.
In the future, developers, including those who will take on land owned previously by Stewart Milne, will be required to fund the Shinafoot Junction for the A9.
The application comes after Muir Homes announced it had purchased the partially complete properties from Stewart Milne Homes after that business went into administration, to ensure the development did not fall into disrepair.
Robert Herd, operations manager, Muir Homes, said, “Although the principle of new homes at this site in Auchterarder has been agreed as part of the overarching planning permission, our application now provides further details for the completion of the development on the Castlemains land. Completing this site would benefit new and existing residents as well as the Auchterarder community who use the adjacent track.
“It would also unlock investment in the local area. Muir Homes would provide tens of thousands of pounds for projects such as the community bus, as well as safeguarding the land to the north west of Auchterarder for sports and recreational use in the future, if this development is approved. We have already engaged with locally elected members as well as the community council, and we look forward to hearing views of local residents.”
