BRIGGSAMASCO has appointed Kobir Ahamed as sustainability manager, marking progress in the company’s environmental commitments.

Kobir brings a wealth of expertise to the role, following a career at the UK’s Foreign Office. He will be responsible for the relaunching of BriggsAmasco’s sustainability strategy, which will include working closely with the existing supply chain to collate Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) on all of the systems used by the company, giving customers clearer insights into the carbon performance of roofing materials throughout their lifecycle.

He also aims to publish the company’s complete sustainability strategy, detailing achievements in matters such as fuel usage, waste management, and biodiversity impact, as well as leading efforts to achieve Carbon Literate Organisation (CLO) accreditation. This is a milestone that he believes will set BriggsAmasco apart as the first UK roofing and waterproofing contractor to earn such recognition.

Education and employee engagement are also at the heart of Kobir’s approach. He is collaborating with the Carbon Literacy Project, a global initiative that trains employees to adopt carbon-saving behaviours. As a result, BriggsAmasco is rolling out Carbon Literacy training for all its staff – a move Kobir believes could reduce the company’s emissions by up to 15%.

“The courses empower people to make changes from the ground up,” he said. “A small shift in behaviour can result in significant carbon savings, making a real difference to our overall environmental impact.

“Sustainability roles attract people who genuinely want to make a difference. Reducing our environmental impact is not just about today – it’s about safeguarding the future for generations to come. This planet is all we have and it’s up to us to protect it.”
