Waterproofing system provides a winning formula for complex roofs

RESITRIX️ waterproofing system

Laura Duncan, commercial director of Edinburgh-based roofing contractor Site Roofing Ltd, part of Site Group, tells Project Scotland why the company chooses the RESITRIX️ waterproofing system from CARLISLE️ for many projects

Q) What services do you offer and what kind of projects do you tackle?

A) Site Group encompasses Site Sealants Ltd, Site Roofing Ltd, and The Waterproofing Design Company. We work closely with architects, engineers, main contractors and building system manufacturers from concept through to project completion, taking an active role in specification, design development and value engineering to ensure we deliver the best possible performance for every installation.

Thanks to our experience and close working relationships with highly regarded manufacturers such as CARLISLE️, we are able to advise on the best solution for each project and we install basements, single-ply roofing membranes, green roofs, concrete repairs, specialist coatings, resin injection and gas membrane systems to exceptional standards.

Q) As an Edinburgh-based contractor, are there any site or commercial challenges for roofing projects in Scotland?

A) Weather conditions! We are meticulous in compiling wind load calculations and keep a close eye on the weather forecast and the temperature of the substrate. And we will never compromise on safety; if conditions are not safe, we will not send our team up.

Q) How long has Site Roofing Ltd been using RESITRIX️ and what first made you try the system on a project?

A) We first began using RESITRIX️ around 10 years ago. We were looking for a robust and reliable single ply waterproofing covering and RESITRIX️ is the only system on the market that combines the durability of a bituminous membrane with the permanent elasticity of EPDM. As a waterproofing specialist that has a reputation for high value and complex projects, we were attracted by the performance and service life benefits of the RESITRIX️ system and knew we could trust the CARLISLE️ brand.

Q) What is it about the system that makes you keep returning to it?

A) We know that we can rely on the RESITRIX® system as a robust waterproofing membrane for which we can provide a warranty with confidence. Our clients like it because it offers flame-free installation, excellent installation integrity values, and long-term performance. We like it because it gives us trouble-free installation and is a complete system, enabling us to specify RESITRIX️ for virtually any flat roof requirement, including warm roofs, inverted roofs, roofs with complex detailing, green roofs, podiums, and balconies.

Q) Tell us about a recent RESITRIX️ project and what advantages the waterproofing system brought

A) We delivered the roofing project for Q Mile’s £350m Haymarket development in Edinburgh using the RESITRIX️ system. It is a very prestigious development designed by Foster + Partners and  constructed by Sir Robert McAlpine and the RESITRIX️ specification follows a previous installation for another of the same client’s schemes.

The requirement was for a warm roof installed onto a concrete deck, and the roof build-up consisted of CARLISLE️’s FG 35 Primer, followed by ALUTRIX 600 vapour barrier membrane, cellular glass insulation board, and RESITRIX SKW fully bonded membrane and drainage matting.

Q) How does RESITRIX️ help you overcome site challenges?

A) RESITRIX️ is easy to work with, thanks to the flexibility of the EPDM layer, so it provides a system that is as useful for creating complex details as it is for covering large field areas. Flame-free installation is also a big plus for us, particularly when we’re working on high profile buildings and confined city centre sites.

It helps us to de-risk the project for the client, while providing a roofing installation with excellent performance, longevity and sustainability credentials.

Q) What support does CARLISLE️ provide during the design development, specification and installation phases?

A) We are experts in what we do and our own team looks after any design development and calculations, but we know CARLISLE️ is there to support us with technical information and troubleshooting advice. They have trained our team and continue to provide installation support, visiting site during each installation.

Q) What advice would you give to specifiers and contractors considering using RESITRIX?

A) When correctly installed, RESITRIX provides a waterproofing system that reduces the risk of water ingress, snagging and call backs because it is fully bonded to the roof with the laps heat-sealed. It’s good to tap into CARLISLE️’s expertise and really understand the benefits of the system so that you can explain to the architect or client about the performance, service life, and sustainability benefits RESITRIX️ can bring to their project.
