SELECTED schools near Morrison Construction Building Central projects are to get free memberships to the Glasgow Science Centre for the current academic year thanks to a new partnership between the two.

The initiative will give pupils and teachers access to STEM learning resources to support and extend classroom teaching, with it hoped provide meaningful educational support and also strengthen community links.

Youngsters will benefit from professional learning opportunities, video content, comprehensive lesson plans, and access to industry experts, whilst also being able to enjoy the engaging activities found at the Science Centre.

Primary school pupils will take part in interactive learning labs on a range of topics including renewable energy, whilst high school students will be introduced to future careers through the centre’s STEM Future Programme – which includes Scotland’s only full-motion flight simulators.

Jim Johnstone, head of communities and social impact for Morrison Construction Building Central, commented, “The Glasgow Science Centre is a fantastic resource for the region and Scotland as a whole, and we are delighted to be partnering with them. Inspiring children into STEM careers is a key part of what we do as a business, and this partnership can only help us create opportunities for future generations.”

Stephen Breslin, Glasgow Science Centre chief executive, added, “I welcome our continued partnership with Morrison Construction and the opportunities this will bring- not just for more children to engage with STEM learning- but for Glasgow Science Centre to work hand-in-hand with industries to equip the next generation with the skills needed to drive forward growth and innovation.

“At Glasgow Science Centre, we believe that no young person should face barriers to careers in STEM. With the demand for skills in science and technology continuing to grow, it has never been more important that government, industry and educators work together to bolster STEM attainment in a way that no one gets left behind.

“As a charity, none of the vital work we are able to achieve at Glasgow Science Centre would be possible without the funding of our valued partners, like Morrison Construction, who enable us to drive forward change.”
