MORRIS & Spottiswood is relocating its Glasgow premises to the city’s east end, creating a base for over 140 staff at EastWorks in Dalmarnock.

Part of the Morris & Spottiswood Group, which specialises in construction services including design, fit-out, housing and mechanical & electrical services (M&E), its founding business, Morris & Spottiswood Ltd, reported the highest turnover in its almost 100-year history in 2023 of £128 million.

EastWorks is a former Victorian era gas purifier shed built in 1843 which was repurposed and regenerated in 2023 by Clyde Gateway. The £9 million development was the first commercial building to be connected to Clyde Gateway’s District Heating Network, which provides heat and hot water to the facility. It also has the Vin18 cafe onsite.

Morris & Spottiswood will occupy 4,755 sq ft of office space. The announcement comes after Acumen Cyber recently moved into the building. ESG specialist Utopi and collaborative workspace provider, Red Tree Business Suites, also have a presence.

Angela Rowley, head of property and development at Clyde Gateway, said, “The regeneration of the derelict former gas purifier shed into modern, innovative workspaces has been hugely successful with a wide range of innovative businesses moving to the Clyde Gateway area bringing jobs and investment. Morris & Spottiswood is a great family-owned business with a presence right across Britain and moving to EastWorks provides scope for them to expand and operate more efficiently.”

Gordon Clyne, joint MD at Morris & Spottiswood, added, “Moving our Glasgow-based office to Dalmarnock represents further investment in our business and people after a record year for Morris & Spottiswood in 2023 and a significant geographical expansion this year, further enhancing our coverage across the UK.

“EastWorks will provide an attractive and well connected workspace for our teams to collaborate. As a proud family business, it is also important for us to play our part in providing investment and high quality employment opportunities in the east end of Glasgow as part of its wider regeneration.”
