A housebuilder’s Key Worker Scheme has helped a couple secure their dream home in Stirling.

Barbara and partner John have bagged their forever property thanks to the initiative from David Wilson Homes. The couple, who recently upsized from a semi-detached to a three-bedroom home, took advantage of the firm’s deposit contribution offer and are now enjoying views of Stirling Castle and The Ochil Hills from its Seven Sisters development.

Barbara, a staff nurse at Forth Valley Royal Hospital, and Stirling Council employee John weren’t looking for a move but couldn’t resist when the Cambusbarron site opened.

Barbara said, “John and I are mature buyers and we could have been mortgage free but we decided to move again when the site opened as we loved it so much. This is a larger home for us and I like that I can see Stirling Castle and The Ochil Hills when I am pottering around in the garden and doing the washing up.

“My new kitchen is huge and I love the design, everyone comments on how amazing it is. The house is so spacious and bright and the buying and moving process was very easy. The hardest part was choosing the kitchen, flooring and tiles but the sales manager was fabulous and helped us every step of the way.”

Keen hillwalker John, who graduated from Stirling University with a postgraduate in housing last November, enjoys admiring the hills from his study. The couple often take the walking trails to visit the giant Redwoods near Polmaise Castle.

In addition to breathtaking scenery and more space, John and Barbara are also benefiting from features they didn’t have previously.

Barbara added, “Our new house has solar panels, which is a feature we’d hoped for in a new-build. We have noticed our gas and electricity bills are lower which is a nice surprise. We felt so confident buying from David Wilson Homes due to their reputation, and the fact that it’s a stunning bespoke development.”

The Key Worker Scheme has now been extended to include employees and volunteers of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), as well as foster carers. The initiative offers key workers £1,000 as a deposit contribution for every £20,000 of a home’s purchase price. So, for a home costing £325,000, key workers would qualify for a contribution of £16,250. As well as the deposit contribution, it also offers flooring, worth up to 1% of the value of the home.
