Ground broken at new 24-property Govanhill social housing development

Butterbiggins Road, Govanhill groundbreaking ceremony

A groundbreaking ceremony has marked the start of construction of a new flatted social housing development in Govanhill.

The Butterbiggins Road project will comprise five storeys featuring nine three-bedroom apartments, ten two-bedroom apartments, and five one bedroom apartments.

Clark Contracts has completed the site enabling works on the previously derelict site, and has now started the build of the 24 properties.

John Quinn (director), Alan McDonald (head of development & property services); and Audrey Flannigan (vice chairperson) from developer Govanhill Housing Association joined representatives from Clark for the ceremony.

Audrey Flannagan said, “We are delighted to break ground on another much needed development in Govanhill. The city of Glasgow is currently grappling with an acute housing emergency, there is no doubt about the level of housing need in the area. As such we are very pleased to start work on 24 homes for social rent.”

Danny McKibbens, operations director at Clark Contracts, added, “We are looking forward to collaborating with new customer, Govanhill Housing Association on this residential development, which will provide further much needed affordable housing in the Govanhill community. This is the second project our dedicated housing division are delivering and joins £30m of residential developments we have delivered in recent years.”
