THE Association for Project Safety (APS) recently marked its 30th anniversary with a week-long series of events, celebrating three decades of championing health and safety in design and construction risk management.

Established in 1995, APS revealed the milestone coincides with 30 years of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM), which the organisation said have ‘transformed’ the safety landscape within the construction sector.

Together, APS and CDM have helped to drive change, reduce accidents, and foster a culture of safety, collaboration, inclusion and mental wellbeing.

Throughout the week of January 19-24, members and industry leaders joined APS in reflecting on its legacy, celebrating achievements, and looking ahead to the future. The celebrations included:

  • Inspiring Discussions and Reflections: Industry experts shared insights on the progress made in health and safety risk management, the evolution of CDM, and the ongoing need for education, collaboration, and innovation.
  • Building a Caring Industry and Mental Health: A standout moment was the Building a Caring Industry event, which focused on mental health in construction.
  • Member Recognition Awards: APS celebrated the contributions of its members, recognising those who have gone above and beyond to uphold and promote health and safety excellence.
  • Panel Session: The week ended with a discussion exploring 30 years of CDM, APS’s journey since 1995, and the opportunities to shape the future of construction safety.

APS president Mark Snelling commented, “For three decades, APS has been a driving force in improving health and safety standards within the construction industry. This anniversary is a moment to celebrate the progress we’ve made while also recognising the work still to be done. Together, with our members and industry partners, we look forward to continuing to lead the way in promoting excellence and innovation.”
