WEST of Scotland Housing Association (WSHA) has announced the appointment of Karen Shaw as director of development and asset management.
Karen will oversee the asset management, property and development, and projects teams to implement WSHA’s ongoing development plans and deliver a rolling programme of investment to the association’s existing stock of over 4,500 homes.
Holding the role as development manager at WSHA since 2019, Karen has led on project management for one of the busiest periods in the association’s recent history. The association added that her ‘considerable experience and unfaltering positivity’ have been ‘key drivers’ in the launch of over 200 new homes for WSHA this year, including the award-winning development of 90 Passivhaus standard homes at Dundashill, Glasgow.
Karen said, “I am absolutely delighted to be appointed to this role and look forward to leading the association on growth and sustainability as we develop our net zero delivery plan and 5-year development strategy. Customers are at the heart of everything I do and I will do my best to ensure that we provide the best customer service and continue to improve and evolve to meet the needs of all our customers now and in the future.”
With over 30 years’ experience in the housing sector, Karen began her career at Bearsden & Milngavie District Council as a trainee housing officer before moving to East Dunbartonshire Council where she worked for 20 years in housing management, delivering a stock transfer of council homes to a local RSL, regenerating communities and kick-starting East Dunbartonshire’s new build programme. Over the last five years at WSHA she has delivered over 350 new affordable homes for the association.
