UNION Technical is celebrating a double triumph at the Herald Scottish Family Business Awards.
The Glasgow-based energy efficiency solutions provider won the Small Family Business of the Year and Fastest Growing Family Business Award.Â
The firm described the achievements as marking a decade of ‘extraordinary growth, innovation, and unwavering commitment to sustainable energy solutions’.
Director Michael Sweeney said, “Over the last ten years, we’ve built Union Technical from the ground up, guided by family values and a clear vision for making homes warmer, greener and more affordable. This year has been our most significant yet both in terms of growth and recognition – and we are just getting started. We’re excited to build on this momentum with further expansion and innovation planned for the years ahead.”
Union Technical was founded in 2014 by Owen Coyle and Michael Sweeney, and were later joined by Owen’s sister Suzanne. The company has grown to employ nearly 100 people.
In 2023, the business reported aturnover of £22 million, with profits of £2 million, and is forecast to double turnover to £44 million in 2024. Union Technical specialises in retrofitting homes with energy-efficient measures such as heating systems, insulation, and renewable technologies.
One standout project was the £1.7 million retrofit of 33 prefabricated homes in Drumchapel, where residents saw over a 50% reduction in energy bills, alongside improved comfort and wellbeing.Â
