RECYCLE Scotland has unveiled a fresh new look to reflect its ambitions of widening its reuse first service to provide sustainable furniture solutions.
Established in 2010, Recycle Scotland’s primary work involves picking up and recycling unwanted office furniture to resell and recycling component parts of what was unable to be reused.
Demand for its services have grown four-fold in the last four years and its fresh look is intended to reflect its evolution from small-scale pick-up service to a larger scale reuse and refurbish ethos. At the forefront will be its reuse service, wherein the organisation matches up businesses that have furniture to dispose of with those in need of furniture, particularly within the further and higher education sector.
Despite an increasing focus on sustainable practices within businesses and ever-growing emphasis on meeting ESG targets, it said that only 17% of disposed furniture is currently recycled in the UK. Recycle Scotland’s new direction reflects the need for its services to not only become more widespread but also the importance of a reusing and refurbishing ethos becoming the norm in office environments.
Drew Carmichael, director of Recycle Scotland, said, “Over the last 14 years we’ve grown from our roots in office furniture recycling to providing whole life sustainable furniture solutions on a much wider scale. We’re keeping that ethos at our heart as we reimagine what Recycle Scotland can offer, retaining a circular model while looking at new ways to revolutionise furniture recycling for the better – to the benefit of businesses, who receive a cost-effective and environmentally-conscious service.”
