BIGG Regeneration, a joint venture between B Corp developer igloo and Scottish Canals, has submitted the next phase of plans for Dundashill, a 600-home new community in Glasgow’s Port Dundas area.
Previous phases included 90 Passivhaus flats by the West of Scotland Housing Association, and 78 townhouses, all rated EPC ‘A’ and built by igloo. The third phase completes the ‘top of the hill’ part of the Dundashill masterplan, with homes set to overlook the city and canal below.
The next phase of 88 homes comprises a mix of one and and two-bed apartments, two and three-bed duplex lofts, and three and four-bedroom townhouses with roof terraces overlooking the city.
They have been designed by Stallan Brand and HAUS Collective. The variety of architecture from the two Glasgow-based practices will offer residents a choice of house design, internal layout, and garden arrangement.
The homes will benefit from enhanced insulation and air tightness, with air source heat pumps and EV charging as standard. Green spaces have been crafted by Rankin Fraser and the development boasts a mix of private gardens and communal spaces.
Construction will again be delivered by CCG, with a focus on a ‘low upfront carbon supply chain’, with locally manufactured timber frames, windows, doors and concrete bricks, which use reclaimed materials.
Gary Watt, development director at igloo, said, “We’re delighted to bring forward the planning application for the next phase of Dundashill. Having welcomed our first buyers into their new homes earlier this year, we’ve seen firsthand the benefits of creating healthy neighbourhoods where people can live and work, as we continue to build a thriving community in Glasgow.
“Dundashill is fast making a name for itself as a new community in the city, offering climate resilient living on Glasgow’s canal, with a rich mix of culture, sports and urban nature right on the doorstep. We’re proud to work alongside our partners to reimagine what it means to live sustainably, healthily and happily in Scotland.”
Construction on phase three of Dundashill is expected to start in summer 2025. The full project team alongside igloo is Stallan Brand and HAUS Collective (architecture); Rankin Fraser (landscape design); Carbon Futures, (energy); Envirocentre, (ecology); G3 (Suds and engineering); Avison Young (Planning advisor); CCG (construction partner); Doig & Smith (Project Managers); and Thomas & Adamson (QS).
