Housebuilder purchases former Glasgow school site for £3m

THE site of the former Howford Primary School and schoolhouse on Crookston Road in Glasgow is to disposed of to Bellway Homes, Glasgow City Council has announced.

The disposal of the 3.33-hectares site will raise £3 million for the local authority, with Bellway Homes planning to build up to 57 homes there.

A total of 14 bids were made for the site, which was placed on the market in June following the school and schoolhouse being declared surplus to the council’s operational requirements in March and October 2019, respectively.

Councillor Ruairi Kelly, convener for housing, development, and land use at Glasgow City Council, said, “The disposal of this site in Crookston is good news for the area and the city – a vacant site will now be given a new and productive use with new and much-needed homes being built there, and a substantial capital receipt for the council will be reinvested into the delivery of public services in Glasgow.”
