Engineers to begin ‘vital’ project on West Highland Railway Line

Network Rail

RAILWAY engineers will work ‘around-the-clock’ for four days from this Saturday at locations between Craigendoran and Crianlarich.

On Saturday and Sunday (November 9 and 10), track will be renewed at Craigendoran where engineers will also replace switches and crossings. At Helensburgh Upper and Glen Falloch further track renewal work will take place between Saturday and Tuesday – with over a mile of railway being replaced across these locations.

A bridge over the railway at Garelochhead will also be refurbished, with engineers blasting off old paint, carrying out steelwork repairs, and repainting the structure. Specialist geotechnical engineers will also undertake earthworks inspections between Helensburgh and Crianlarich over the four-day closure of the line.

Ross Moran, Network Rail Scotland route director, said, “This vital work will help improve performance and reliability for our customers. Our engineers will work around-the-clock to complete these projects quickly, with as little disruption as possible, and we thank our passengers and freight customers for their understanding while this crucial investment takes place.”
