CALA Homes (West) recently visited Chryston Primary School to talk to children about the housebuilding industry and educate them about the dangers of playing in and around construction sites.

Two primary three classes participated in the interactive session, which covered the history of building homes as well as the variety of career opportunities available. There was also a stark warning about the dangers of going into construction areas unsupervised.

Site manager Colin McCarney discussed how Cala keeps its nearby Earls Rise development safe and shared a video highlighting some of the hidden dangers that can be found on building sites.

Stay Safe, Stay Away also provides a range of curriculum-based activities including designing a site safety poster and writing a news article.

The initiative forms part of Cala Homes West’s Community Pledge, showcasing the firm’s commitment to bring meaningful investment to its local communities.

Colin said, “The Stay Safe, Stay Away programme is designed to spread the message to children that construction sites are not somewhere to play around. As responsible homebuilders we have created a programme that lets children and young people know that the message is serious but is presented in a way that’s easy for them to digest.

“Another aim of this initiative is to bring to life at grassroots level how new homes are developed and the important role that housebuilders play in creating sustainable new communities. It was great to see the children engaged with the presentation.”

Cala’s Earls Rise development, located in Stepps, is almost sold out, with only one home remaining.
