SAVILLS has been appointed to bring a ‘prime’ residential development site in the heart of Murrayfield to the market.
Lansdowne is a 2.2-acre site owned by St George’s School and currently accommodates the lower school campus.
Founded in 1888, with a legacy of girls’ education, St George’s is embarking on a programme of sustainable development and modernisation. As part of this, the lower school campus is due to be relocated to the main school site for the 2025/26 school year.
The development opportunity includes Lansdowne House, which was originally constructed in 1875 as a private dwelling. The property is C-listed, as is the original lodge house, stone boundary wall and gate piers. Landsdowne also includes modern extensions which have been added over time, as well as an original stable building and two sports pitches.
A proposed layout has been created by LBA and was the subject of a pre-application process with City of Edinburgh Council who confirmed residential use is acceptable on the site, subject to obtaining planning permission.

Savills Planning has submitted a pre-application enquiry to Edinburgh City Council but necessary permissions will be required to be met in respect of listed status, design, amenity, open space and parking.”
