PACIFIC Building has announced it is powering ahead on numerous project fronts as the company marks the half-way point in a ‘hugely successful’ year so far.
In the hotels sector, two major refurbishment programmes are underway at sites in Edinburgh and St Andrews.
At the four-star Apex Hotel in the capital’s Waterloo Place, Pacific’s teams are delivering an upgrade to public areas in the Georgian building. The project involves a makeover and reconfiguration of the reception, bar and restaurants on a phased basis, with the hotel remaining operational throughout. The scope of works includes floor coverings, Crittall screens, building services, decoration, tiling and partitions as well as bespoke carpentry items.
At St Andrews’ Seaton House in Fife – located on The Scores – the project involves the refurbishment of the existing building including major structural and services interventions. The new hotel will incorporate 41 bedrooms as well as an a la carte restaurant, bar and ‘light bites’ cafe.
Both of these projects are due for completion later in the year and follow the delivery of three other refurbishment programmes in Edinburgh – the Mount Royal on Princes Street, the Marriott in Holyrood, and the Holiday Inn Edinburgh Zoo – involving a total of more than 400 rooms.
Based in Hillington on the outskirts of Glasgow, Pacific’s notable wins in the hotels sector have been achieved while continuing to nurture relationships with clients in the airports and food and drink sectors.
At Glasgow International Airport, where the company has an operational base, work is commencing on two new programmes. These involve the creation of new office facilities for both Emirates airline and Jet 2, as well as a new boardroom for the airport operators and an office for National Statistics.
At Edinburgh International Airport, Pacific refreshed the BA lounge in a project that involved joinery creations from the firm’s specialist workshop, electrical installations, lighting, tiling doors, and partitions.
Work has also started on a new McDonald’s restaurant in Monifieth, near Dundee, that replaces the previous diner that was destroyed by fire.
Against this backdrop of increased workflow, Pacific has been awarded a second Gold Award by The 5% Club of employers who invest in inclusive workplace training, apprenticeships and graduate schemes.
As the business prepares to celebrate its 20th anniversary next year, MD Gerard McMahon said, “We are in the middle of a truly exceptional year in which we seen significant growth and are looking forward to an even better one next year. Credit to all our teams who have helped us secure – and deliver – these latest projects for clients new to us as well as some old friends.
“The quality of our work and our roster of clients speaks volumes about our track record and our ambitions going forward.”
Among those helping Pacific gear up for the anniversary is joiner Willie Murphy – one of a number of long-serving employees – who recently celebrated 50 years in the industry.
Pacific became an employee-owned business in January 2019, which means every staff member is a beneficiary of an Employee Ownership Trust.
